Firm History

Founded in 1988, Rae & Lipskie Investment Counsel Inc. offers investment management to individuals, trusts, estates, foundations and corporations.  We have offices in Waterloo & Burlington, Ontario. Chairman Ken Rae brings more than forty-five years of investment experience to the firm and is a Past President of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada.  President Brian Lipskie joined the firm in 1989 following a successful career with a national securities firm.  Rae & Lipskie has professional staff ensuring that their clients receive the personal attention of investment managers, who are registered with the appropriate Government authorities and who adhere to the highest standards of integrity and trustworthiness.

Investment Philosophy

Rae & Lipskie has but one clear mission:  to provide its clients with independent, and objective professional investment management, free of any conflict of interest.  The firm’s goal is to protect, preserve and enhance clients’ investment capital.  An investment policy statement is created based on clients’ personal circumstances, monetary goals, and investment objectives.  The clients’ risk tolerance is determined by their ability and willingness to accept risk.  Rae & Lipskie pursues a diversified and balanced approach to earn superior returns while minimizing risk.  As a team, and on an independent level, securities are analyzed, researched, and monitored by the Portfolio Managers.  We are not active traders.  Clients’ portfolios are continuously monitored to ensure that investments are meeting expectations and appropriate for their personal circumstances.

Reporting and Communication with Clients

Ongoing communication between the Portfolio Manager and clients is paramount to our relationship.  Direct contact with the Portfolio Manager, a dedicated administrative person and a back-up Portfolio Manager complete a 3-person team assigned to each client.  On a quarterly basis, clients receive a letter outlining the economic environment and written reports detailing portfolio holdings, personal rates of return, and a portfolio summary identifying their current and target asset mix.Clients’ assets are held at a third party custodian who mail out transaction confirmations as executed, and account statements on a monthly basis if there is activity, but not less than on a quarterly basis.Clients also receive an informative and educational quarterly Investment Newsletter. The firm’s portfolio managers have a fiduciary duty to invest money on a prudent basis on behalf of clients.  Compensation is based exclusively on the market value of the investments under management.  We do not receive sales commissions of any kind.  The RaeLipskie Partnership shares a common goal with its clients – preservation and growth of capital.
